WHY English MASTIFFS?

I met
my first Mastiff in the eighties. Since then I have never met a Mastiff I
didn't like. We
had found'our' breed; gentle giants with a short coat, laid back
temperaments, great house dogs, and WONDERFUL
with our small children.

Nephew Noah
Soon I became a 'Mastiff groupie' at
dog shows and in 1991 brought home our first Mastiff puppy- 'Maddie'.

WE HEALTH TEST ALL OF OUR MASTIFFS BEFORE MAKING BREEDING DECISIONS
Temperament, soundness and conformation to the breed standard are all
factors in this decision.
It is not a guarantee that no pups
produced will have health problems, however it is the only way we have to reduce the risks
of passing on health problems known to be genetic.
Health Testing is an important tool in determining which Mastiff should
be a
candidate for breeding. Only the very best of a litter should be bred-
that which represents the goal of the breeding.

Welcome to our homepage!
Monastic Mastiffs is a family in Alabama who loves and shares our lives
with Mastiffs who live in our home with us along with a couple of very
special feathered friends.
Dolly is a member and on the
board of directors of the
MCOA and
SSMF
Mastiff clubs and is a volunteer for
Southern
States Mastiff Rescue.
Our Mastiffs and our two comical
African Grey parrots (Charlie & Larry) are cherished members of the
family. Dolly is a graphic artist who works from home
creating graphic art and websites when she is not spending time with our
Mastiffs ,birds or our first grandson!
Monastic Mastiffs has not done a
breeding since 2004 but if all of her pre-breeding health testing is
good, we do hope to breed Windy in the spring of 2010.
Above is Ari with his
sister Gabby at twenty months of age during a recent visit. Gabby
And Fergie are co-owned with Susan Wheeler of Wheeler Knoll Mastiffs.
Below is our Windy at seven months of age
practicing for her first show!

We will never be a
large commercial breeder. We breed only the very best we have to
the very best we can find and breed only every few years when we are
ready for another puppy. We health test our dogs before
deciding who will be bred and are members of
the Mastiff Club of America and Southern States Mastiff Fanciers, as well as being
active volunteers for Southern States Mastiff Rescue.
Right-
is Temmlock and Ari at nine weeks
of age with
their momma Sabra who was two years old.
Currently our little
Mastiff family consists of Ari and Temmlock, our two apricot boys
from our Sabra/Dugan litter of Dec 2004, our very special silver
fawn girl Windy from Meadow Farm Mastiffs, our gentle and loving adopted
'special needs' boy, Zacha and our 18 month old puppy 'Suzy Q'.
Sabra left us too soon from complications during emergency surgery in October of 2005- we miss her
every day. She lives on in her beautiful babies from the breeding with Dugan. Sabra is pictured
below at age three.

We have been blessed with
the companionship of Mastiffs since 1990, and Giant Breeds all my
life- I treasure each day we have with our Mastiffs and we spend every day
together.
Much like an English
Mastiff puppy, this website is a work in progress! please check back
periodically as the page will be updated often. Thanks for visiting our
site.
Dolly & Brock Moore

Our first Mastiff
was a
beautiful silver fawn girl - tightly linebred on Ch. Lefholtz
Handsome Hoyt, 'Maddie'. We will always be grateful to Linda Caine
and Karen Wiggins for having entrusted her to
us.

Maddie's
passing in 2001
was the ending of an era in our lives, but she lives in our hearts
forever. We miss you Maddie.

Gabby are co-owned with Susan Wheeler of Wheeler Knoll Mastiffs.
